1st XI

Shropshire County Cricket League – Division 1

Dan Harris – 1st XI Team Captain

At the young age of 6 years old Dan started playing cricket at Condover CC and at the age of 12 years old Dan played his first adult adult game for Condover’s 2nd XI. In fairness to Dan he was almost destined to play cricket as his father, Jon Harris our chairman, has been involved in cricket for many years, but fortunately for us Dan fell in love with the game and continues to play.

In addition to playing club cricket Dan also represented Shropshire at the U12 and U17 age groups.

In 2003 Condover CC merged with Wroxeter and, as that merger ended in 2006 Dan remained at Wroxeter.

This is what Dan has to say about playing for Wroxeter:

“Having been at the club for 20 years, its become a big part of my life. I have been on the committee or as part of the senior players/captaincy group for a number of years now and plan to continue to do so. We have been through some really tough moments as a club, and have come out of the other side now looking like a very healthy club with a thriving membership in Senior, junior and women’s cricket as well as a refreshed Social membership too. We are really lucky to play at such a beautiful venue, with lots of fantastic people around the place too.”

2nd XI

Shropshire County Cricket League – Division 5

James Harris – 2nd XI team Captain

Cricket has always played a huge part of the Harris family, which means James can remember spending many Saturdays travelling around the county, watching his father play. So it was no huge surprise when James picked the bat and ball himself. James started playing cricket as a junior at Condover CC before starting adult cricket at the age of 11. By the time James started playing adult cricket Condover CC and Wroxeter had merged and as the merger ended James stayed at Wroxeter for a few years before leaving and returning to Condover for another short spell, he came back to Wroxeter around 2014. In addition to been on the committee and the 2nd XI team captain James also runs the Junior Section.

James says

“Being part of the club and getting the opportunity to pay cricket, with some fantastic people, is so valuable to me. I have gained friends for life and made so many great memories, both on and off the pitch.”

Midweek XI

Shrewsbury& District Evening League – Division 3

Paul Durham – Midweek XI Team Captain

Paul first played cricket whilst at primary school, many years ago, and over the years he has played the occasional game when the opportunity arose but never played regularly until he joined Wroxeter in 2022.

Paul finally decided that the time was right to find a club and play some cricket before it became too late. So with thanks to a friend he was introduced to Wroxeter.

Paul says:

“From the first time I met anyone from Wroxeter they welcomed me in to their club without question. Despite no real playing experience but armed with a love of the game I am now into my third season with the club, appointed captain of the midweek XI and also on the club committee.

Wroxeter is a fantastic club that welcomes new members with a smile and encourages everyone to play to the best of their ability.”

Helen Jennings – Wroxeter Wreckers Team Captain

Helen first knew that she wanted to play cricket whilst she was at secondary school, but she only got to play rounders and hockey.

Helen finally got her wish and first played cricket in 2019.

Whilst Helen was a member of the Wrekin Road Runners, she met Sheila Dickie. Sheila was involved in setting up Softball Cricket Festivals and so Helen joined the Wrekin Wreckers, finding it great fun and good for keeping fit as well as being part of a team.

Initially some of the Wrekin Wreckers were involved with Albrighton CC but in 2023 they joined with Wroxeter. In 2024 the team was renamed the Wroxeter Wreckers and Helen believes this is a great opportunity for the ladies to be part of a great club at a wonderful venue in a beautiful location.
